I followed one of the tutorials for making an Intalio-inspired print. I added a little collage to it as well. I'm happy with how it turned out. Just to give you a little glimpse of what happens in our sleepy little village on a Saturday morning.<br />
As you no doubt all know my name is Melva. So hereby hangs the tale.<br />
My husband came home on Friday and said he was going out for lunch on Saturday. He would be going out on the horse and cart (not his I might add) with lads /men as they sometimes do on a Sunday morning for a gentle stroll around the valley and then off to Vicente's for lunch. Wait for it, of Melva. He had a real look of Hannibal Lector about him Yuck.......They had all decided this is what they wanted to eat. So one of the guys was going to do the cooking of my namesake. I'm sure they all thought it was hysterical. The jokes came thick and fast for John about him eating his wife?????? Well, as I waved him off I had a quick pat down to make sure I wasn't missing any parts. He turned round gave me a sly smile and said, " I'm sure we will wash it down with a nice Chianti oh sorry, no I meant to say Rioja. Ha, Ha, Ha. I Have added some photo's of said meal. Needless to say a good time was had by all.<br />

Thought I would just post a few things I have been working on at the moment. As I am now a lady of leisure I have all the time in the world to get in my little room and get messy. Messy room, messy hands, messy work surface lovely!!!!!!!! The gardening can wait!!! The Gelli plate seems to have taken over my life at the moment. Well, ever since I bought one really. You can play for hours.</div>

With the help of a few tools from my husbands workshop (I put them all back in the correct place, honest). I saw something like them on Pinterest. Thought I would have a go. So no housework later I am now completing the 3rd an orange?????????? They do take sometime to cut out. This is a picture of my neighbours Brian & Linda's wall at the moment. It makes me smile, it's so cheerful. Brings a bit of colour into our drab lives. It's a Mexican Flame (Pyrostegia venusta). It flowers for a long time and we love to see it. They are both really keen gardeners and they have the most beautiful garden that will soon be coming into it's own.<br />

I have been at work in my little studio recently. Just hoping that I am back in the zone again. I have been told my job will be finishing in December so I really must get back into the art world again. Our weather here is just turning to winter, we have been so fortunate this year, it has been so warm through Oct. & Nov. We haven't needed any heating or wood burner so no cleaning the fire out YIPPEE. It has been marvellous. Mind you we have had no rain either, so everyone is complaining about their gardens. The oranges around us and in our garden will definitely not have much juice in them. So perhaps not so much fresh orange juice for breakfast. <br />
<br />

My mojo definitely needs looking into......... I am at the moment trying to make some Christmas cards using my Gelli Plate. More of that later. I will post some of the things I have been playing about with. Mail Me Some Art placed a template by Carolyn Dickenson for an ATC tri-shutter card that I have been using with some nice results. Thank you Carolyn & Mail Me Some Art. It's been a great deal of fun. So here goes.<br />

But I have a little excuse. I have been doing an on line course with Carla Sonheim for Gelli Plate Printing. This has been great. I have loved it. It has become a minor obsession in my life. Well, hey I don't have much else. Makes me sound a very sad person!!!!!!!!!!!!<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I will include some of my work below. Meanwhile here in Sunny Spain it's very hot. So the acrylic paint is drying up very quickly. It definitely needs an extender in it. So do I??????</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I have had some wonderful Mail Art sent to me from people in the USA via Mail Me Some Art. It is really nice as when you go to the post box and there's something nice in there instead of the usual bill. GREAT........ I will take some pictures and put them up on my blog soon.</div>

So, that is what I have been doing of late. I didn't realize how difficult it was going to be. But in the end they worked out OK. Below are the ones I am sending to America to be swapped. I also made small envelopes for them all. But forgot to take pictures of them.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">You have to leave part of the card showing so everyone knows it is a playing card that has been altered. I have used some of the makeshift gelli plate backgrounds that I have been experimenting with on most of the cards. I have to do something with them!!!!!</td></tr>

This has given me the kick-start that I needed. To play and enjoy my artwork........ Instead of putting everything off. The brief was to create card or cards that are round so I thought I would show you the ones I have sent off to America. I will have to keep checking the post to see what are returned??????<br />

THE ORIGEN OF THE FALLAS.</div>
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">
The fallas began as a festival celebrated by local artisans in honour of Saint Joseph. In the Valencian Comminity this festival dates back to the second half of the 18th century, when it was just a simple festivity held as part of the proceedings involved in the general Saint Joseph's day celebrations on the 19th March.</div>

Well I'm back...... John and I (that's my husband) have just arrived back from a town quite close to us called Denia it's about 7 kilometers away. We went to experience Las Fallas. The first days of "Las fallas" celebration start with the "la planta" or the building of "Las Fallas", they are enormous constructions, massive works of art in papier maché and wood. This started on the 15th March. After that it's when the party really gets started. Culminating on San José the 19th March when the "crema" the burning takes place. This brings the fiesta to a close. But what a close. Go onto You Tube and take a look. These massive works of art take a year to construct and then sadly are burnt to the ground.The Falleras/os then start raising money for next year.............The Fallas in Valencia are even bigger and more amazing still can't get my head round them being burnt. Most of them have a real knock at politcians or someone from the area constructors being the main grumble around here. There are little cards all round these statues with a point to be made!!! Nice when you can do that.</div>

Well I'm back. Hopefully I have got my mojo back as regards my artwork? I just couldn't seem to get back into it. Around Christmas I bought Carla Sonheim's book Imaginary Animals and I have started to have great fun playing. Instead of taking things so seriously. She really gets you to forget all your hangups. Saying you don't always have to have everything just so. Just get on with things let go in general. Brings the child out in you. So that's me at the moment. Here is a glimpse of my Junk Journal filled with imaginary animals. The book is made up from old junk mail and postcards, gessoed then painted and drawn on. The binding I made by dyeing string with acrylic paint (bit messy). I then added some old beads from a broken necklace. So all in all a great time has been had by me.</div>

I don't know, but things just seem to get in my way, don't ask me what though?????? I don't seem to have got much artwork done either. The weather has now got down to lovely temperatures AND you can sleep at night, walk the dog at normal times and generally get on with your life without dripping sweat everywhere. I think this summer has been one of the longest and hottest since we came to live here 24 years ago. PHEW!!!!!<br />
Recently I bought a book by Flora Bowley. I have followed her blog for sometime now. I love her work. But, as I have a job letting go with my artwork, I thought I would give it a go. I have really enjoyed the experience. I have made a nice mess all over the floor, walls and myself but what the heck.........<br />

My name as you all know is Melva. The name my parents gave me why I do not know. Whilst being brought up in England it was quite a novelty. People would say that's an unusual name, where did your parents get that from. All I knew was that my mum had a pen friend in America with the same name. On moving to Spain I found quite quickly that it is quite normal. Hence every time I am asked my name here it is greeted with uncontrolled laughter. Much to my concern I had to try and find out why. A trip to the local supermarket was all that was needed. All will be revealed below.<br />

My artwork seems to have taken a back seat at the moment as it is so hot and I need to acclimatise again. I do this every year. Always saying the same thing "it's much hotter this year than it was last year this time" but no it's not, it's always the same HOT HOT HOT.........<br />
I can't believe it was only last weekend, that we all were watching the Diamond Jubilee on the telly. It's the first time in all the years I have lived here (23 years phew!!!!) that I would have liked to have been back in rainy England being part of the momentous occasion. Even in the rain!!!!!! am I mad or what? The river pageant was wonderful. We had a few small parties out here with fetes, bunting the lot. But it?s just not the same. <br />
<br />
We have even had to have our poor dog clipped because of the heat. He isn't liking it at all. I think he feels a bit like Goliath. It has sapped his strength.<br />

Got up really early this morning. Have got all my jobs done. So now I can sit down and enjoy myself. A little blog hopping, a little painting, a little radio listening, perhaps even a little telly watching. Who knows, a little bit of what you fancy does you good so they say.......<br />
My husband John is really on the mend now after his meeting with the huge Mastiff dog. Our little dog has stopped shaking also. That is until the next firework goes off. Living in Spain that's a problem. So he will sit shake in the shower tray in our en-suite until he thinks it's safe to come out.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Here he is Ronaldo. I have used watercolour both in tube and liquid. It was sprayed with water then cling film scrunched up and left to dry. I then resprayed and left sea salt on it to dry. Brushed it off and then went to work.</td></tr>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I have been reading the magazine "The Artist" of late. There is an article in last months by Jean Haines called " Be brave with watercolour. " I found this article very interesting and had to have had a little go. The result is above. Not brilliant but I am definitely going to try working this way again. Slapping it on using cling film & salt the lot. When the paint was put on a large yellow blob appeared. Low and behold there he was Ronaldo the rat. Working this way picking out parts of your work to expand on is real fun. I loved it. It might help free up my work a little, hopefully?</div>

Things have been a little hectic here. My husband and our little rescue dog were attacked by a stray dog. A very large Mastiff (and massive he was). No fisherman's tale this, size of a small pony??????? or so I have been told. John ended up at the hospital and that has been on-going ever since. Not from a bite but falling down in the melee. He is now having to have physio everyday. But at least he can walk and drive now. For a week he couldn't do anything. He does have a very fetching strip of cerise pink tape running from the top of his leg to his knee. Just the right colour I thought. Our dog is OK but very nervous. Needless to say the dog was never found. We have reported it to the police. But the huge thing must have gone into hiding.......<br />
Thought I would show you what I have been up to of late.<br />

I know I should be doing all the mundane things in life i.e housework, gardening, ironing. Oh no!!!! not me. I am locked away in my little room, playing. I wish I could find someone local to me to really show me the workings of this fabulous bit of kit. But no such luck. I have been using a book by Susan Tuttle called Digital Expressions which for me is brilliant, she takes you through things so easily. Well, like you really haven't a grasp on anything. That's good for me then!!!!!!!! It is a little frustrating sometimes as some of the jargon used in the book I suppose I should know. But HEY!!!!!!! what's a few mistakes and hours wasted?????? Well, here we go then.<br />
Bits of the pictures below where all used somehow????????<br />

</tbody></table>Well today is San Antoni here in sunny Spain. The day when off you trot down to the village with any animal you wish to have blessed. Hence dogs, cats, rabbits birds were all being dragged down there this morning. My husband was up at the crack of dawn getting one of his friends horses ready. He didn't know he was about to be blessed as well. Bless him!!!!!! He ended up in the cart being paraded round the village. He only went for the breakfast. This you can see being cooked in the make-shift barbeque, the wheel barrow. Pretty good at improvising the Spanish. I hasten to add John got home around three o clock after doing a bar crawl on the horse & trap. Not bad for a Sunday.........Melvahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16856604081965592080noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5326588144984617186.post-69387881757445113222012-01-10T17:57:00.000+01:002012-01-10T17:57:32.774+01:00The New Year 2012 <div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Where did last year go to?????? Is it a sign of getting old. Yes, I hear you say. OH NO!!!!!! Our New Year ended with a fizzle rather than a bang. Meaning both myself and my husband fell asleep in our chairs next to a roaring fire (well it was when we went to sleep).Then all of a sudden I was awakened by lots of noise from the television and bells chiming in the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Oh No! we should be downing 12 lucky grapes this we haven't missed since we have lived here which is over 20 years. So then it was a race to try and gobble them down before the clock stopped chiming. No, we didn't make it. So no good luck for us this year!!!!!! and the Cava is still chilling in the fridge. Didn't feel like it after stuffing down 12 grapes very quickly.........</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

</tbody></table><em>Well, I have found myself with a few minutes to spare. So I thought I would enter the blogging world again. I hope there is someone out there going to read this?Has Christmas really come and gone? I can't believe it. I thought I would show you pictures of our walk on Christmas Day before sitting down to a barbecue of very large prawns, and for my husband a brontosaurus steak + Chips (that he is not normally allowed to eat CHIPS I mean). The look on his face said it all.Perhaps better not show you that. He thought he had died and gone to heaven.</em><br />

<em>I am now waiting to start the Strathmore online workshops. I cannot wait. The first is with Traci Bautista who does quite a lot of mixed media work. Very bright colours and very off the wall. OHHHHHHH!!!!!!! hurry up 1st January..........</em><br />

I went to a course in Javea quite some time ago and the lovely Sue showed us how to make one like it. She has an Aladins cave of crafty things there. Her shop is called Art Y Facts. She also has a blog <a href="http://desiretoinspire-suec.blogspot.com/">http://desiretoinspire-suec.blogspot.com/</a> check it out.<br />
Well I am going to trot off now to start the wood burner going. Who say's oh to live in sunny Spain? Not me..........Melvahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16856604081965592080noreply@blogger.com0
